Who we are
What began as an outreach to the city in the early 80s grew to become a local church, and in 1991 Church in the City was founded as a racially and economically diverse church with a passion for reflecting Christ to our community and throughout the world.
From our inception, our passion has been to restore, rebuild and transform lives through the practical and spiritual application of the Word of God. In 2009 we moved into our current home, a restored 1921 synagogue at 16th and Gaylord, and grew to include, alongside our contemporary Sunday worship services, a Messianic Jewish expression of worship on Saturdays. Thus Church in the City – Beth Abraham: a “dual expression” congregation, a one new man church.
In Jesus, the wall of separation between Jew and Gentile has been taken down. We are a unique church preaching a timely message, and our desire is to see your relationship with the Lord grow deeper as He fulfills His call on your life through a vibrant and intimate relationship with Him and His Body.
Grow the saved. Save the lost. Care for the downtrodden.

These are the values the church wrote down for itself in its first years on Colfax. They still hold.
Taught plainly and applied practically, in every service and every ministry.
Caring for the downtrodden is not a program here. It is the reason the church exists.
Multiracial, multicultural and multi-economic since 1991, on purpose.

We seek to rebuild and transform the lives of struggling adults, families in transition or in crisis, at-risk youth and children of all ages. Church in the City – Beth Abraham partners with many other groups to reach our community.
