Ever had one of those moments where you try your absolute hardest, only to fall flat on your face? Maybe it’s trying to bake a cake that looks like a pancake. Or you study for a test and still bomb it. Life sometimes feels like a series of “not good enough” moments. But here’s the twist—when it comes to God, not being good enough is exactly where we’re supposed to be. Wait, what?
This past weekend, Michael Walker’s message Yom Kippur – The Day of Atonement reminded us that our attempts to be “good enough” don’t get us anywhere with God. The whole point of Yom Kippur is to show us that we can’t make things right on our own. And you know what? That’s not a failure—it’s freedom.
Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” That means every single one of us is in the same boat—we all mess up, we all fall short, and that’s okay. The beauty of Yeshua’s sacrifice is that He bridges that gap for us. We don’t need to be perfect because He was perfect for us.
Michael mentioned a key point in his message: “Yeshua’s sacrifice wasn’t just about covering sin—it was about removing it entirely.” Imagine you’re standing in front of a whiteboard covered with all your mistakes, failures, and sins. Now, imagine someone comes along and wipes it completely clean. That’s what Yeshua did for us on Yom Kippur. It’s not just a temporary fix—it’s a permanent clean slate.
Reflection Question:
- Have you ever felt like you weren’t good enough for God? What would change if you accepted that Yeshua already made you good enough through His sacrifice?
Michael also reminded us that when we try to be good enough on our own, it’s like putting on a Band-Aid when we really need surgery. It might cover things up for a while, but it doesn’t fix the problem. That’s why Yeshua came—because our best efforts will never be enough. And you know what? That’s perfect because it means we can stop trying to fix ourselves and instead rest in what Yeshua has already done.
Let’s pray: Lord, thank You that I don’t have to be perfect. Thank You for Yeshua’s sacrifice that made a way for me to be right with You, even when I fall short. Help me to remember that Your grace is enough for me, no matter what. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
You’re not good enough—on your own, that is. But Yeshua is, and that’s what counts. Today, stop striving to fix yourself and trust that Yeshua has already made you whole.
