Remember that old cartoon Transformers? The theme song was catchy: “Transformers, more than meets the eye!” I know, I’m totally dating myself here, but hang with me. The whole premise was that these robots looked like regular vehicles, but they had a hidden, powerful identity underneath. That’s a lot like us, isn’t it? We can look like we’ve got it all together on the outside, but inside, there’s so much more going on.
This past weekend, Simon Obert’s message, “Identity Matters,” reminded us that our identity in Christ is more powerful and significant than any external appearance. Just like those Transformers had a hidden greatness, we have a God-given identity that’s waiting to shine through. And it’s way better than any label the world can stick on us.
Simon talked about the importance of renewing our minds, as it says in Romans 12:2. It’s not just about positive thinking; it’s about real transformation. Imagine if Optimus Prime had never transformed and just stayed a truck. He’d be missing out on his full potential, right? It’s the same for us. When we don’t step into our true identity, we’re missing out on who God created us to be.
Simon also pointed out that our identity isn’t based on our performance—thank goodness for that! Whether you’re the superstar or you’re barely hanging in there, your worth doesn’t change. You’re still God’s child, and He has an amazing plan for you. It’s like when those Transformers reveal their true form—they were always powerful; they just had to show it.
Proverbs 23:7 says, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” In other words, what you believe about yourself affects how you live. If you think you’re weak and unimportant, you’ll live like it. But if you believe you’re a child of God, loved and chosen, you’ll start living with purpose and confidence.
Here’s a thought: What are you hiding? What part of your true identity have you been keeping under wraps? Maybe you’ve been afraid to share your faith, thinking people won’t understand. Or perhaps you’ve been holding back your gifts, worried that you’re not good enough. Whatever it is, it’s time to let God reveal who you really are. You’re more than meets the eye!
Closing Prayer: Lord, I sometimes forget that my true identity is found in You. Help me to renew my mind and see myself as You see me. Give me the courage to live out my full potential and to step into the purpose You’ve designed for me. Thank You that I’m more than meets the eye! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
You are more than what people see. You are a beloved child of God, filled with potential and purpose. Don’t settle for staying in disguise. Let God show the world who you really are.
