Alright, picture this: you’re all set for your day. Coffee? Check. To-do list? Check. Ready to conquer the world? Absolutely. And then… BAM! Out of nowhere, something changes your plans. Maybe your kid decides that today is the perfect day to conduct a science experiment in the kitchen, or your boss calls an emergency meeting just as you’re about to enjoy that first glorious sip of coffee. Ever been there? Yeah, me too!
This brings us to the next part of Simon Obert’s message from this past weekend, titled “No Limits.” Simon talked about being ready for those unexpected shifts in life, comparing them to a quarterback calling an “audible” in a football game. Now, I’m no football expert, but I do know this: an audible is when the quarterback suddenly changes the play at the line of scrimmage. It’s a surprise, and it’s all about adjusting on the fly.
Simon said, “Sometimes the Holy Spirit calls an audible in our lives, and I believe He wants us to be sensitive to that.” That got me thinking. How many times has God tried to “call an audible” in my life, and I’ve been too busy sticking to my own playbook to notice? Have you ever felt that way?
There’s this great verse that comes to mind: Isaiah 55:9 — “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Basically, God’s saying, “Hey, I see the whole field; you’re just looking at the line of scrimmage.”
Now, let’s get real for a second. How do you react when your plans get thrown off? Do you roll with it like a pro, or do you find yourself muttering under your breath (or maybe out loud)? What if, instead of seeing those surprise moments as disruptions, we saw them as God nudging us into something greater?
Here’s a fun idea: What if the next time your plans get flipped upside down, you said, “Okay, God, I see You calling an audible here. What’s the new play?” I mean, imagine how different your day might go!
Let’s reflect a little: When was a time God “called an audible” in your life? How did you respond? Looking back, do you see how it was actually a better plan than your original one? What would it look like if you trusted God’s audibles more and worried less about sticking to your plans?
Let’s pray: “Holy Spirit, help me to be sensitive to Your leading, especially when You call an audible in my life. Teach me to trust that Your ways are always higher and better than mine. Help me to see unexpected changes as part of Your perfect plan. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Remember, life with God isn’t about sticking to a script; it’s about being open to His spontaneous plays. Next time your plans change unexpectedly, just imagine God winking at you and saying, “Let’s see where this new direction takes us!”
